Design and Form

PDF EBook by Johannes Itten

EBook Description

I became interested in reading Itten's books after seeing the Bauhaus exhibit at MOMA. Design and Form PDF EBookHis students' work impressed me.

And the explanation of his teaching methods did too—you have to like someone who states, "Respect for human beings is the beginning and end of all education."

He wants his students to see contrasts, texture, rhythm and form, and the exercises he creates for them emphasize this.Perhaps the fact that there is a separate book for color made the black- PDFand-whiteness of the work shown seem somewhat repetitive after awhile. But there is a lot to think about in his approach to art and craft. And the fact that he makes no value judgement about "art" vs "craft" in the act of creation is also a plus.

Though I wouldn't try to recreate all of Itten's lessons, the book is worth looking at for anyone interested in the process of design. Like this book?
